MAYOR PRO TEM HEAD SAYS ITS TIME TO REMOVE THE RE LEE NAME

AT A CALLED VIRTUAL MEETING TUESDAY AFTERNOON TO MAKE UP FOR ONE MISSED TO DUE COVID-19 INFECTIONS AT CITY HALL--THE THOMASTON CITY COUNCIL AGREED TO INVITE THE UPSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO A TOWN HALL-TYPE MEETING POSSIBLY MONDAY AUGUST 24TH OR THURSDAY THE 27TH AT THE CIVIC CENTER FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ABOUT REMOVING THE R.E. LEE NAME FROM THE JOINTLY OWNED-- GOVERNMENT COMPLEX BUILDING AND REMOVING THE CONFEDERATE PAINTINGS IN THE AUDITORIUM.

IN REMARKS AT THE CLOSE OF THE MEETING--MAYOR PRO TEM DOUG HEAD SAID HE'S SPOKEN WITH THOSE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE AND HE THINKS ITS TIME TO REMOVE THE LEE NAME FROM A PUBLIC BUILDING AND RELOCATE THE ARTIFACTS TO THE ARCHIVES OR SOME TYPE MUSEUM . HE SAID THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR 28 YEARS AND ITS TIME TO STOP LIVING IN THE PAST AND LOOK TO THE FUTURE.

MAYOR J.D. STALLINGS AND COUNCIL MEMBERS JEFF MIDDLEBROOKS , LAIKETHA REEVES AND SEVERAL EMPLOYEES ARE QUARANTINED WITH COVID-19 AND CITY HALL IS CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK ONLY AVAILABLE BY PHONE OR E-MAIL.
