ELECTRIC RATE INCREASE COMING IN THOMASTON?

THE THOMASTON MAYOR AND COUNCIL PLANS TO HOLD A TOWN HALL MEETING IN THE FALL WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF MEAG AND GA. ELECTRIC CITIES REGARDING ITS FUTURE OBLIGATIONS TO THE PLANT VOGTLE NUCLEAR PLANT PROJECT NEAR AUGUSTA –A PROJECT MEAG MEMBERS INCLUDING THOMASTON, GRIFFIN, BARNESVILLE, JACKSON , FORSYTH AND OVER 40 OTHER CITIES HAVE OWNERSHIP-IN. THOMASTON CITY HALL HAS INDICATED ELECTRIC RATE INCREASES IN THE NEXT YEAR OR TWO COULD BE NEEDED TO ADDRESS THE DEBT . THE GA. POWER PROJECT COST IS NOW IN THE RANGE OF $25 BILLION AFTER YEARS OF DELAYS AND COST OVERRUNS.

THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL DISCUSSED THE PROJECT AT THE LAST REGULAR MEETING AND MAYOR PRO TEM DOUG HEAD TOLD 101 NEWS —CITY HALL DOES NOT WANT TO KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD—IT WANTS TO DEVELOP A GAME PLAN TO HANDLE THE DEBT.
