ACCORDING TO UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF DAN KILGORE, JAMES ROSS REEVES, AGE 77 HAD A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS HEAD AND ANOTHER TO HIS RIGHT SHOULDER/CHEST AREA. HIS WIFE LINDA REEVES, 71, HAD A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HER RIGHT SHOULDER AREA. DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO 311 PLEASANT GROVE ROAD IN YATESVILLE AROUND 8;15PM MONDAY NIGHT AND FOUND THE COUPLE IN THE HOME.
BOTH WERE TREATED AT THE SCENE BY UPSON EMS AND TRANSPORTED TO THE MEDICAL CENTER OF CENTRAL GA. IN MACON FOR TREATMENT.
SHERIFF KILGORE SAID THE REEVES COUPLE ARRIVED AT THEIR HOME AND WERE ATTACKED FROM BEHIND BY A MALE SUBJECT WEARING DARK CLOTHING, AS THEY ENTERED THE BACK DOOR. AFTER SHOOTING THE REEVES WITH A HANDGUN, THE MALE FLED ON FOOT.
THE GBI IS ASSISTING WITH PROCESSING THE CRIME SCENE, GA. DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS DISPATCHED BLOODHOUNDS TO CONDUCT A SEARCH AND THE SPALDING COUNTY HELICOPTER UNIT JOINED THE SEARCH. THE GSP, GA. STATE PROBATION DEPARTMENT AND LAMAR COUNTY S.O. ALSO ASSISTED WITH THE INVESTIGATION.
SHERIFF KILGORE SAID A $1000 REWARD IS BEING OFFERED FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CRIMES.

ACCORDING TO ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY BEN COKER, A THOMASTON MAN, CHRISTOPHER JOHN HALE, IN HIS 30’S WAS SENTENCED TO SERVE 20 YEARS IN PRISON BY JUDGE MACK CRAWFORD, WEDNESDAY, IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT.
ACCORDING TO TESTIMONY, HALE AND HIS GIRL FRIEND WERE HAVING AN ARGUMENT AND SHE PULLED A HANDGUN ON HIM. HALE TOOK IT AWAY, BROKE HER NOSE WITH A BLOW TO THE FACE AND SHOT HER IN THE SHOULDER.

THE UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND THOMASTON CITY COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY VOTED FOR AN AGREEMENT ON THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX SPLIT, TUESDAY. IT WILL REMAIN THE SAME 53% COUNTY 45% CITY OF THOMASTON 2% CITY OF YATESVILLE.
THE TWO BODIES ALSO UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS METHOD OF FUNDING JOINT PROJECTS WITH THE CITY OF THOMASTON AGREEING TO ABOUT 37% OF THE FUNDING.
AT THE CLOSE OF THE JOINT MEETING, COMMISSION CHAIRMAN RUSTY BLACKSTON ANNOUNCED THAT REPS OF THE BARETTA FIREARMS COMPANY PAID A SECOND VISIT TO THOMASTON, TUESDAY TO MEET WITH THE IDA.

KEVIN DEAN SPIVEY, 28 OF 113 NORRIS BRANCH LANE—8 COUNTS OF BURGLARY, BOND OF $91,000. DARREN LEE WOMBLE, 28 OF 145 WILLOW ROAD—TWO COUNTS BURGLARY , BOND OF $41,000.

THE IDA REQUESTED THE MEETING TO MAKE A CASE FOR ONE MILL OF TAX ANNUALLY DEDICATED TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. WITHOUT IT , IDA MEMBERS SAID , THE COMMUNITY CAN’T COMPETE FOR JOBS WITH THE REST OF THE STATE.
THOMASTON MAYOR HAYS ARNOLD SAID THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO KNOW TAXES ARE GOING-UP REGARDLESS. THE IDA CAN GET THE EXTRA FUNDING OR IN THE LONG TERM, TAXES WILL HAVE TO BE RAISED BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF INVESTMENT AND REVENUE SOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY.

ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTOR OF UPSON EMA, MARTHA ANN MCCARTY, 30-YEAR OLD RYAN BARFIELD OF MAUK, GA DISAPPEARED JUNE 8 AT THE 36W. BRIDGE.
THE BODY WAS LOCATED BY RESCUE CHIEF BOBBY BOOKER AND A SEARCH TEAM NEAR THE POINT OF A SMALL ISLAND IN THE SECTION OF THE RIVER BETWEEN THE TWO PORTIONS OF YELLOW JACKET SHOALS.
THE UPSON COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE HAD THE BODY TRANSPORTED TO THE GBI CRIME LAB FOR AN AUTOPSY.
DIRECTOR MCCARTY THANKED STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE SEARCH AND BUSINESSES THAT PROVIDED MEALS AND SERVICES TO THE SEARCH PARTY.

THE GSP REPORT SAID THE OTHER MOTORIST, TRACY JONES, 42 , WAS PULLING OUT OF A PRIVATE DRIVE AT 1724 BARNESVILLE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURED. STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAID HE HAD BEEN JUMPING OFF THE BRIDGE INTO THE RIVER, AND JUMPED IN AROUND 8;30PM SATURDAY NIGHT AND DID NOT RESURFACE. HE THREW A FLOATION DEVICE IN THE WATER, BUT MISSED HIS MARK , SUBMERGED ON IMPACT, RESURFACED AND THEN WENT UNDER AGAIN AND HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE.

ACCORDING TO CITY OF THOMASTON FIRE CHIEF EDDIE LIFSEY, A HOUSE AT 120 GOSHEN ROAD OWNED BY CYNTHIA GUEVARA RIOS WAS A TOTAL LOSS, SATURDAY NIGHT. THE RESIDENCE WAS TOTALLY INVOLVED WHEN FIRE UNITS ARRIVED, NO ONE WAS AT HOME.

THE P.D. INVESTIGATIONS UNIT CHARGED PASTOR DANIEL WITH THEFT BY DECEPTION AND BURGLARY AND HIS WIFE WITH PARTY TO A CRIME OF BURGLARY.
THE REPORT SAID THEY USED A KEY TO ENTER THE RESIDENCE OF THE 77 YEAR OLD FEMALE AND COMMIT A BURGLARY.
PREACHER DANIEL HAD BEEN PASTOR OF FIRST FREE WILL BAPTIST CHURCH SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2012 AND CAME TO THOMASTON FROM ARKANSAS.

CLEARWATER PAPER OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY, IT WILL CLOSE ITS TISSUE CONVERTING FACILITY NEXT YEAR, HOUSED IN THE FORMER THOMASTON MILLS LAKESIDE PLANT .
IN A PRESS RELEASE , THE COMPANY SAID THE DECISION WAS MADE FOLLOWING A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS . THE GRADUAL SHUTDOWN OF CONVERTING EQUIPMENT WILL OCCUR ON A SCHEDULE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WITH SOME OPERATIONS RUNNING INTO THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2014 ,AFFECTING A TOTAL OF 150 EMPLOYEES.
DISPLACED THOMASTON EMPLOYEES WILL BE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR OPEN POSITIONS AT OTHER CLEARWATER FACILITIES, AND SEPERATION AND INCENTIVE PAY WILL BE OFFERED TO EMPLOYEES WHO REMAIN AT THOMASTON UNTIL THEIR FINAL DAY OF ESTABLISHED WORK.

UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF DAN KILGORE TOLD TGA NEWS LATE MONDAY, CHARGES OF 7 COUNTS OF BURGLARY AND ONE COUNT OF ATTEMPTED BURGLARY WILL BE LODGED TUESDAY AGAINEST DAVID EUGENE VAUGHN, 45 , WHO HAS BEEN STAYING AT A RESIDENCE ON GREEN FOREST ROAD.
SEVERAL CHURCHES AND BUSINESSES ON 36 EAST AND 74 EAST WERE BURGLARIZED OVERNIGHT THURSDAY. AN ATTEMPTED BURGLARY AT PHOENIX RISING SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER. THE BURGLAR WAS APPARENTLY LOOKING FOR CASH. $70 MISSING FROM ROCK HILL FIRE DEPARTMENT.
SHERIFF KILGORE SAID INVESTIGATORS HAD VAUGHN IN JAIL FRIDAY ON A PROBATION VIOLATION WITHIN HOURS OF THE BURGLARIES. HE SERVED TIME FOR AUTO THEFT AND BURGLARY IN UPSON COUNTY IN 2002 AND IS WANTED IN FLORIDA ON A PAROLE VIOLATION.

ACCORDING TO LOCAL RELATIVES—HEIDI MCCORKLE, 28 ,A MEDICAL TECHNICIAN , WAS ONE OF 5 KILLED AFTER A SMALL JET OWNED BY BAIN MEDICAL LANDED AT THE MCDUFFIE COUNTY AIRPORT NEAR THOMSON, GA. WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY AN 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, AND THOMASTON RELATIVES, AN UNCLE—BUSINESSMAN PHIL PARROT AND GRANDPARENTS, BETTY PASLEY, AND MARCELL AND ANN PARROTT.
THE AIRCRAFT HAD JUST RETURNED FROM NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. AUTHORITIES SAID THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER SURVIVED THE CRASH.

IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT, MONDAY , CHIEF JUDGE CHRIS EDWARDS SENTENCED TERRELL OMAR SEARCY TO 35 YEARS, SERVE 25 ,FOR BURGLARY AND AGGREVATED BATTERY ON A PERSON OVER 65 YEARS OF AGE. WYCHE WAS SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS, SERVE 5 FOR BURGLARY.
ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY BEN COKER SAID SEARCY SLUGGED THE RETIRED POLICE OFFICER IN THE FACE, FRACTURING HIS NOSE, WHEN SGT. HALL RETURNED FROM CHURCH AND FOUND THE TWO MEN IN HIS HOUSE, ABOUT A YEAR AGO. SEARCY AND WYCHE WERE ON THE COURT CALENDAR TO GO TO TRIAL, BUT THEY ENTERED GUILTY PLEAS.

TWO THUNDERSTORM CELLS DISPLAYED SOME ROTATION ON RADAR AND THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ISSUED THE FIRST WARNING FROM 2;30 UNTIL 3;15 AND THE SECOND 3;20 TILL 4;30PM.
NO TOUCHDOWNS REPORTED BUT THERE WAS A REPORT OF A ROOF BLOWN OFF A HOUSE IN MONROE COUNTY AND A TREE LIMB LAUNCHED THROUGH A CAR WINDOW IN CRAWFORD COUNTY.
STUDENTS IN THE THOMASTON-UPSON COUNTY SCHOOLS WERE HELD AFTER THE FIRST WARNING WAS ISSUED AND WERE BEING DISMISSED WHEN THE SECOND WARNING WAS ISSUED, SO THEY WERE SENT BACK TO CLASS. BUSES FINALLY DEPARTED AROUND 5PM.
A TORNADO CAUSED MASSIVE DAMAGE IN ADAIRSVILLE IN BARTOW COUNTY. ONE KILLED, A MANUFACTURING PLANT WAS FLATTENED AND DAMAGE TO HOUSES AND OTHER BUILDINGS. GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BARTOW AND GORDON COUNTIES.
MERIWETHER, PIKE, LAMAR, SPALDING, AND MONROE COUNTIES ALL WERE UNDER TORNADO WARNINGS DURING THE AFTERNOON.

A VACANT MOBILE HOME AT 6455 CREST HIGHWAY WAS SET ON FIRE FRIDAY NIGHT , THEN TORCHED AGAIN SUNDAY AND THAT DESTROYED IT. THE SHERIFF TOLD TGA NEWS THE SUBJECT COULD BE LINKED TO THOSE FIRES.
