THE PRESS RELEASE SAYS THE COUNTY OF UPSON FILED FOR ARBITRATION AGAINST THE CITY OF THOMASTON NOV. 2, STATING THAT THE PARTIES WERE UNABLE TO REACH AN AGREEMENT. UNDER GA. LAW, THE CASE WILL BE HEARD BY A JUDGE FROM OUTSIDE THE GRIFFIN JUDICIAL CIRCUIT. CITY ATTORNEY JOEL BENTLEY SAYS THAT COULD BE TIME-CONSUMING AND WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN IS NOT CLEAR.

Upson County Tax Commissioner Berry Cook told TGA News,the 2012 tax digest has been approved by the Ga. Depart. of Revenue. Tax bills will be in the mail shortly with a due date of Nov. 15. Due to a rollback of almost 6 mills, by the Upson Co. Commissioners, most property owners will see a reduction in taxes, he said.

NEIGHBORS SAW HIM ON THE TRACTOR AROUND 9AM AND WHEN THEY RETURNED FROM SHOPPING THEY OBSERVED THE TRACTOR IN A DITCH AND CHECKED ON HIM.

DISTRICT ONE UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONER SANDRA TRICE ENTERED A GUILTY PLEA FRIDAY IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT AND WAS SENTENCED TO FINE, PROBATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE BY JUDGE CHRIS EDWARDS.
AS PART OF THE AGREEMENT, ALL CHARGES WERE DROPPED AGAINST CO-DEFENDANT DEBRA JONES-PARKS. BOTH WERE SCHEDULED FOR JURY TRIAL MAY 3RD.
ACCORDING TO SPECIAL PROSECUTOR ALONZO WHITAKER OF COLUMBUS, COMMISSIONER TRICE ENTERED A GUILTY PLEA TO 6 COUNTS INVOLVING THE SALE OF PRE-NEED FUNERAL CONTRACTS , AND WAS SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS PROBATION, A $500 FINE, 80 HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE, BUT NO RESTITUTION.

THOMASTON POLICE SAID THE TWO VICTIMS ARE ANTHONY SMITH , WHO WAS SHOT IN THE BACK AND TRANSPORTED BY AIR AMBULANCE TO A MACON HOSPITAL—BUT HAS BEEN SINCE BEEN DISCHARGED, AND ANTHONY SCOTT WHO WAS SHOT IN THE LEG, TREATED AND RELEASED AT URMC.

A TRAGEDY INVOLVING THE LAFIESTA MEXICAN RESTAURANT FAMILY OF THOMASTON. ACCORDING TO THOMASTON POLICE AN AUTOPSY HAS BEEN ORDERED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH OF AN 86 YEAR OLD FEMALE WHO PERISHED IN A 5AM HOUSE FIRE ON NORTH GOODRICH AVE.
TWO OTHER MALES ESCAPED THE BLAZE, ONE SUFFERED 2ND DEGREE BURNS AND WAS AIR AMBULANCED TO THE BURN UNIT AT GRADY HOSPITAL IN ATLANTA. THE OTHER HAD SEVERE CUTS WHEN HE WENT THROUGH A WINDOW AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO UPSON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER BY UPSON EMS.

NUWAUPIANS RETAIL STORE CLOSED
THOMASTON POLICE FOUND HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS AT A RETAIL BUILDING AT 105 SOUTH HIGHTOWER STREET AND CODE ENFORCEMENT AND BUILDING AND ZONING CLOSED THE SITE, THE RETAIL STORE, NUWAUPIANS ALL EYES ON EGYPT. A 55-GALLON DRUM WAS BEING USED AS A WOOD-BURNING HEATER AND FILLED THE BUILDING WITH SMOKE.
A BLACK FEMALE AND A SMALL CHILD WERE LIVING IN THE COMMERCIAL BUILDING AND A MAN THERE, LARRY GRIFFIN, 51 WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT IN CLAYTON COUNTY.
THE NUWAUPIANS LEASED THE VFW CLUB BEFORE IT BURNED IN JANUARY OF 2011, BUT WERE REMOVED FROM THE BUILDING BY AN ORDER IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT.

ARREST IN ASSAULT ON RETIRED P.D. OFFICER
MAJOR DAN KILGORE OF THE UPSON S.O. SAYS TERRILL OMAR SEARCY, 25, OF 226 SMITH ROAD WAS ARRESTED ON 4TH AVE. WEDNESDAY WITH ASSISTANCE FROM THE THOMASTON P.D.
SEARCY IS A SUSPECT IN AN ASSAULT ON RETIRED THOMASTON POLICE SGT. AUBREY HALL OF ZORN ROAD WHO WAS SCHEDULED TO UNDERGO SURGERY WEDNESDAY AT A MACON HOSPITAL AFTER HE RECEIVED A FRACTURED NOSE IN THE ATTACK.

ACCORDING TO UPSON S.O. AN 86 YEAR OLD WHITE MALE WAS TREATED AT THE E.R. AFTER HE WAS FOUND WITH A BLOODY FACE AT 101 ZORN ROAD.
HE TOLD DEPUTIES HE SAW AN OLDER MODEL WHITE CHEVY IN HIS DRIVEWAY AND FOUND TWO BLACK MALES INSIDE HIS RESIDENCE. HE ASKED WHAT THEY WERE DOING THERE AND ONE OF THEM PUNCHED HIM IN THE NOSE AND THEY FLED IN THE CAR. THE GBI PROCESSED THE CRIME SCENE.

SAID SHE GOT LOCKED IN THE STORE AFTER CLOSING, BUT POLICE FOUND A BAG NEAR THE LADIES RESTROOM STUFFED WITH $1640 OF MERCHANDISE, AFTER THE SECURITY ALARM WAS TRIGGERED.

FORMER HOUSING DIR/HUSBAND TO FEDERAL PRISON.
ACCORDING TO THE U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE FORMER THOMASTON HOUSING AUTHORITY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DARLENE MCDANIEL AND HER HUSBAND, LANCE MCDANIEL WERE SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON TUESDAY FOR CONSPIRING TO STEAL GOVERNMENT MONEY.
DARLENE MCDANIEL MUST SERVE 41 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON, WHILE HER HUSBAND LANCE MCDANIEL WAS SENTENCED TO 33 MONTHS BY A FEDERAL JUDGE IN MACON.
CHARGES WERE DISMISSED AGAINST STEVEN WAYNE WILLIAMS,, WHO INITIALLY ALSO WAS INDICTED—DUE TO A LACK OF EVIDENCE.
THE U.S. ATTORNEYS OFFICE SAID DARLENE MCDANIEL WAS ACCUSED OF HONORING CONTRACTS, WHILE SERVING AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WITH STEVE WILLIAMS PAINTING CONTRACTOR. THE COMPANY EMPLOYED HER HUSBAND AS A FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE PERFORMING WORK FOR THE HOUSING AUTHORITY, BUT THE U.S. ATTORNEY SAID THE HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS DID NOT AUTHORIZE THE CONTRACTS.
THOMASTON MAYOR HAYS ARNOLD HAS ANNOUNCED THE ENTIRE BOARD OF THE HOUSING AUTHORITY IS BEING REPLACED, AS A RESULT.

THE CITY OF THOMASTON’S ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, BOBBY ELLINGTON HAS CONCLUDED THAT THE PUT DOWN OF A RED PIT BULL MIX, JAN. 8, BY A POLICE OFFICER WAS JUSTIFIED AND THE OWNER HAS BEEN CITED FOR ALLOWING A VICIOUS DOG TO RUN LOOSE. SHE WAS WARNED ABOUT THE DOG LAST YEAR.
IN HIS REPORT ON THE INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED OF THE INCIDENT ON EAST LEE ST, OFFICER ELLINGTON SAYS HE GAVE THE DOG OWNER, STEPHANIE VOSS WATSON, A VERBAL WARNING ABOUT KEEPING THE DOG INSIDE UNLESS RESTRAINED BY A LEASH—AFTER THE FEMALE PIT BULL MIX ATTACKED A MAN ON EAST GORDON ST. AUGUST 31, 2011.
THE REPORT CONTAINS STATEMENTS FROM LAWRENCE MINTER WHO TOLD POLICE THE DOG ATTACKED HIM NEAR THE COOK’S PARKING LOT AROUND 1AM, JAN. 8, PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT WITH THE P.D. OFFICER. MINTER SAID HE HAD TO REMOVE HIS COAT TO USE IN HIS DEFENSE SO THE DOG WOULD NOT BITE HIM.
LT. PAUL WALKER SAID THE DOG WAS BARKING AND ADVANCING AFTER HE YELLED TO THE DOG OWNER TO GET CONTROL OF THE ANIMAL, SO HE SHOT THE DOG IN THE SHOULDER.

THE INCIDENT HAPPENED NEAR CITY CAB CO. ON EAST LEE ST.—BUT CAB DRIVER ROBERT ALEXANDER TOLD TGA NEWS THERE WAS NO NEED TO SHOOT THE FEMALE, POLO, SHE WAS NOT AGGRESSIVE, SHE JUST LIKED ATTENTION.
THE P.D. INCIDENT REPORT SAID LT. PAUL WALKER OBSERVED THE DOG JUMPING AT ANOTHER MAN, THEN A SHORT TIME LATER, THE DOG APPROACHED HIM AND WAS BARKING AND ADVANCING . THE REPORT SAID TWICE HE YELLED TO THE DOG’S OWNER TO GET CONTROL OF THE ANIMAL BEFORE HE FIRED A SHOT .
