AT TUESDAY’S MEETING UPSON COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN MAURICE RAINES WENT ON RECORD THAT THERE WOULD BE NO TAX HIKE IN 2012. HE SAID THE TAX DIGEST COULD BE DOWN AROUND 5%, AND THE AMOUNT OF A PROPOSED TAX ROLLBACK WILL NOT BE DECIDED UNTIL AUGUST.

ROMAN ANTONIO DOMINGUEZ OF SOUTH AMERICA WAS BOUND OVER TO THE UPSON COUNTY GRAND JURY BY JUDGE WILLIAM HUGHLEY AFTER A PRELIMINARY HEARING, WEDNESDAY. THE COURT WAS TOLD U.S. IMMIGRATION OFFICIALS HAVE A HOLD ON HIM.
HIS ALLEGED VICTIMS, FOUR FEMALES , ALL MINORS, WHO LIVE IN WEST THOMASTON, IN A HOUSEHOLD WHERE HE SOMETIMES STAYED. BOND WAS SET AT $250,000.

AGGRESSIVE RATTLESNAKE PUT DOWN
UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT TOOK OUT A RATTLESNAKE AT 2515 TRIUNE MILL ROAD, THAT BIT A DOG OWNED BY PEGGY FERRELL. THE PET WAS TAKEN TO THE VET.
DEPUTY BOB BLANKENSHIP SAID THE SNAKE WAS COILED AND READY TO STRIKE WHEN HE FOUND IT BY AN OAK TREE, AND HE USED HIS DEPARTMENT-ISSUED SHOTGUN TO PUT IT DOWN.

SCHOOL BOARD BACKS PRINCIPAL ON SENIOR PRANK CHARGES
DESPITE PLEAS FROM PARENTS, THE THOMASTON-UPSON BOARD OF EDUCATION VOTED 6-1 TUESDAY NIGHT TO KEEP CRIMINAL TRESPASS CHARGES AGAINST 14 SENIORS INVOLVED IN A SENIOR PRANK TO OCCUPY THE HIGH SCHOOL. MERIAM ELSEY CAST THE ONLY VOTE AGAINST THE MOTION.
BECAUSE THEY WERE SUSPENDED THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO MARCH IN COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES.
ACCORDING TO THE REPORT BY THE UPSON COUNTY S.O. WHEN PRINCIPAL TRACY CALDWELL ARRIVED AT SCHOOL THE STUDENTS, WHO APPARENTLY ENTERED THE BUILDING THROUGH THE ROOF, WOULD NOT REMOVE ROPES THAT SEALED THE DOORS. THE PRINCIPAL TOLD DEPUTIES TO FILE CHARGES, CASES THAT WILL BE HEARD NEXT MONTH IN UPSON MAGISTRATE COURT.

ARMED ROBBERY WAS A FALSE REPORT
THE UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS ARRESTED A STORE CLERK AND HER BOYFRIEND FOR STAGING AN ARMED ROBBERY AT THE HANNAH’S MILL CONVENIENCE STORE NEAR WEST COUNTY ROAD.
AMANDA DIANE JOHNSON, 26, OF 969 TRIUNE MILL ROAD AND AARON BERNARD WILSON, 32 OF 304 TRIUNE AVENUE HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE CRIME REPORT JUNE 10,2012.

A FEMALE CLERK TOLD UPSON S.O. A MALE WEARING DARK CLOTHING ENTERED THE STORE, POINTED A PISTOL AT HER AND ORDERED HER INTO THE OFFICE. TWO MONEY BAGS ARE MISSING AFTER THE INCIDENT JUNE 10.
FATAL TRACTOR ACCIDENT FRIDAY
ACCORDING TO THE UPSON COUNTY S.O. 51 YEAR OLD JAY MARION HAMMOCK OF 110 KINGS ROAD DIED FRIDAY WHEN HE WAS PINNED UNDERNEATH HIS NEW TRACTOR.
NEIGHBORS SAW HIM ON THE TRACTOR AROUND 9AM AND WHEN THEY RETURNED FROM SHOPPING THEY OBSERVED THE TRACTOR IN A DITCH AND CHECKED ON HIM.

UPSON COUNTY’S PROBATE JUDGE DANIELLE MCRAE TOLD TGA NEWS, THURSDAY, SHE PLANS TO APPOINT SOMEONE TO FILL THE SEAT PRIOR TO THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, TUESDAY.
THE APPOINTMENT WILL BE MADE AT 6;30 AND THE NEW INTERIM COMMISSIONER WILL BE SEATED AND VOTE WITH THE BOARD AT THE 7PM MEETING.
RUSTY BLACKSTON RESIGNED THE POST TO RUN FOR CHAIRMAN. THE INTERIM COMMISSIONER WILL SERVE UNTIL A NEW COMMISSIONER IS ELECTED.
